SPECIES AT RISK ACT

Description of critical habitat of the inner Bay of Fundy Atlantic salmon in Fundy National Park of Canada

The inner Bay of Fundy Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) is a species listed on Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act as endangered. Critical habitat for the inner Bay of Fundy (iBoF) Atlantic salmon is identified within the Recovery Strategy for the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), inner Bay of Fundy populations.

Notice is hereby given that, pursuant to subsection 58(2) of the Species at Risk Act, critical habitat of the iBoF Atlantic salmon in Fundy National Park of Canada is described as all habitat accessible to iBoF Atlantic salmon within the sections of the Point Wolfe River, Bennett Brook, Hueston Brook, Upper Salmon River, Forty Five River and Broad River as described below. The biophysical attributes of iBoF Atlantic salmon freshwater critical habitat include the following: riffles, runs, and staging or holding pools found below complete natural barriers (i.e. waterfalls).

Critical habitat for iBoF Atlantic salmon in Fundy National Park of Canada is located within two distinct sites. The first site is comprised of a segment of the Point Wolfe River and two of its tributaries (672_1, see below). The second site is comprised of a segment of Upper Salmon River and two of its tributaries (672_2, see below). Site numbers are based on the unique Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) species identification number for the iBoF Atlantic salmon (672), and critical habitat parcel number. Further details regarding iBoF Atlantic salmon critical habitat (including a map) can be found at the Species at Risk Public Registry Web site. All coordinates refer to the North American Datum of 1983, Zone 20. All references to maps refer to the National Topographic Series (NTS) maps.
